Cricket Australia media release:
Chris Gayle leaves Australian Tour to be with his mother
The West Cricket Board announced on Wednesday that captain Chris Gayle will be leaving the tour of Australia to return to Jamaica, to be with his mother who is unwell. Team Manager Joel Garner indicated that Gayle’s mother was admitted to hospital in Jamaica and the player was granted time off to be with her.
Gayle will leave from Brisbane on Wednesday afternoon and will miss the four-day first-class match against Queensland Bulls at the Allan Border Field, which starts on Wednesday (8pm Tuesday Eastern Caribbean Time/7 pm Jamaica Time). Vice-captain Denesh Ramdin will lead the team in Gayle's absence.
“The management and players in the team as well as the WICB are with Chris and his family at this time. We also want to wish his mother a speedy recovery,” Garner said.
